About

What's In A Name?

Saijojo (pronounced "sigh-joe-joe") is one of the five types of Zen. It means "great and perfect practice" and is the expression of life in its purest and most natural form, and the realization of true nature.

Saijojo hair products reflect this peaceful, healthy philosophy by staying true to nature. We use biopolymers for hold and food-based preservatives instead of ingredients derived from petroleum. When synthetic ingredients are required, we use the smallest amount possible and the cleanest, most natural form possible.

Our goal is to inspire stylists and their clients to add a little Zen to their lives. We hope that our products will help them take responsibility for the harmful fumes produced in salons (and in homes) - and encourage them to use healthier, more eco-friendly styling options.

After all, true beauty is natural.

OUR MISSION:
To advance the perception of hairstyling as a career by adding value to the profession through the creation of products and tools which will enhance the level of professionalism throughout the industry.
We do this by helping Salon owners strengthen and grow their business, providing a higher level of education, boosting skill and knowledge to increase sales, and retain their staff through better retail commissions. Imagine, one bottle of shampoo could increase your stylists hourly rate anywhere between $8-$15 per hour, while leaving the salon with an equal amount of profit.

About The Company

Saijojo is the brainchild of hairstylist Mario Verrilli, who struggled with difficult hair himself and later struggled with hair loss.

After struggling with scalp and skin conditions linked to sensitivities to the toxic chemicals found in most products, Mario decided to create milder, more natural styling products that would be easier on hair, people, and the planet.

He took his idea to the experts - as fate would have it, he met an experienced and highly innovative research chemist specializing in environmentally-friendly coatings and water-based resins. They learned that there were alternatives that would work in place of polymers (plastics) as a holding agent, and a breakthrough product - and a revolution in healthy haircare - was born.

About The Company

Saijojo is the brainchild of hairstylist Mario Verrilli, who has cut and styled hair for models and celebrities, including Daria Werbowy, the Pussycat Dolls and Nigella Lawson, among others.

After struggling with skin conditions linked to parabens and PEGs, and sensitivities to the toxic airborne chemicals in his salon and on set, Mario decided that he wanted to create a line of milder, more natural styling products that would be easier on hair, on people, and on the planet.

He took his idea to the experts - as fate would have it, he met Yingchun Liu, an experienced and highly innovative research chemist who specializes in environmentally-friendly coatings and water-based resins. In her work with Mario, Liu discovered that natural sugars (polysaccarides) would work as well as polymers (plastics) as a holding agent, a breakthrough product - and a revolution in healthy haircare - was born.
